Fortius used the Cority Meddbase API to move away from spreadsheet-led workflows and connect its own patient portal to the operational work behind it.
“It’s a system that you can literally do everything on.”
Charissa Sullivan – Central Services Manager, Fortius Clinic

A booking had become the start of a manual trail
Fortius was relying heavily on spreadsheets to organise patient appointments and medical records.
A booking could mean updating patient details, clinical documentation and notifications to other teams through separate manual workflows.
As the practice grew, keeping every part of that process up to date took more time. The team needed a way to connect the patient-facing journey to the work happening across the organisation.
The portal needed to belong to Fortius
Fortius did not adopt an off-the-shelf patient portal with a fixed experience.
Its own web developers created the portal using the Cority Meddbase API. This gave Fortius control over the experience patients saw while connecting it to the practice management system behind it.
Patients entered through a Fortius digital experience. The booking, records and operational workflows continued within Cority Meddbase.
The portal stopped being another separate system
A patient portal can create more work when information still needs to be moved manually into the systems used by clinic teams.
Fortius connected its portal directly to Cority Meddbase, creating an integrated and automated setup.
Information from the patient-facing experience could continue into the operational workflow without relying on the same collection of spreadsheets and manual updates.
The portal became part of how the practice worked, rather than another place staff had to check.
Less of the day spent updating spreadsheets
Moving the patient journey into an integrated system reduced Fortius’ reliance on manual processes.
The team no longer had to manage the same volume of operational work through disconnected spreadsheets and workflows.
That gave Fortius more room to focus on the growth of the practice and the standard of care it wanted to deliver.
Sixteen years without starting again
Fortius’ patient portal has now been in successful use for 16 years.
During that time, the system has continued to support the practice’s expanding requirements. Fortius has not had to abandon its patient experience and rebuild it around another platform as the organisation has grown.
For more than a decade, the same portal still connects patients to the workflows behind the practice.
The people behind the platform
For Fortius, the relationship with Cority Meddbase has extended beyond access to the software and API.
The Cority Meddbase team has continued to support the organisation as its requirements have developed.
“The best thing for us about working with Cority Meddbase is the people.”
Lucy Ball – Director of Radiology, Fortius Clinic
